Sippy Cups and Bottles for Every Stage

How to compare baby bottles, transitional cups, straw cups, and spill-resistant toddler cups.

The right bottle or cup often depends on the child's stage, preferences, and routine—not which product has the loudest marketing.

Babies may reject a highly rated bottle simply because they dislike its nipple, flow, shape, or feel. For younger babies, I look for bottles that are comfortable to hold, easy to assemble, and realistic to clean every day.

As children begin drinking more independently, lightweight cups with manageable handles, soft straws, and fewer tiny parts are often easier for families. A small trial is usually wiser than buying a full cabinet of one style first.

WHAT I LOOK FOR

A practical checklist

  • Developmentally appropriate design
  • Manageable flow
  • Few hard-to-clean parts
  • Comfortable size and handles
  • Replacement parts that are easy to find
