Best Swaddles for Newborns: What I Look For
A practical guide to newborn swaddle fabrics, closures, fit, washing, and safe use.
The best swaddle is not necessarily the most expensive one. It is the one a tired parent can use correctly, wash easily, and match to the baby's preferences and stage.
Swaddles are one of my favorite gifts for new parents because they can make those early weeks feel more manageable. Some require traditional folding, while others use zippers, hook-and-loop panels, or adjustable closures. I prefer soft, breathable options that stay secure without turning a middle-of-the-night diaper change into a project.
Babies do not all like the same arm position, so it can help to try more than one style before buying a large set. Always follow the product's sizing and use instructions. Place babies on their backs for sleep, stop swaddling when they show signs of trying to roll, and avoid weighted swaddles.
